No Bra Day’ is a celebration observed on October 13 every year in order to raise awareness of breast cancer and encourage ladies to take care of their breasts. It also encourages women to leave their bra at home.
Although it is a controversial event in the eye of some people who see it as sexualizing and exploiting women’s body, but the sole aim is to raise awareness of breast cancer.
This event encourages women to go braless for a 24-hour period, to raise awareness of the importance of knowing how to carry out breast self-examinations, being able to recognise the symptoms of breast cancer and encouraging women to partake in regular breast cancer screening.
Doctors recommend women to self examine their breasts at least once every month as early detection is key.
Take a look at the skin surrounding the nipple, look at the nipple also. It is called dimpling of the skin, like the skin on an orange or lemon.
Sometimes this is what breast cancer looks like.
Dimpling of the breast tissue can be a sign of a serious form of cancer known as inflammatory breast cancer.
It is known as the Peau d’orange, (orange peel) and can happen when cancer cells block the nymph drainage of the breast, resulting in fluid accumulation in the breast tissue leading to dimping.
Sometimes, the skin can also be red and inflamed.
Cancer is not the only cause of this, but if you see this, please see a doctor ASAP..
