Poverty Mentality Mindset

Poverty Mentality And IT’s Effect

One major characteristic of poor people is BLAME GAME. Poor people NEVER take responsibility for their mistakes, they will rather blame people, enemies, witches etc for every problem they face. If they fail exams or job interviews, they will never take responsibility, they will rather blame the devil or family members.

Maybe you are rich. Maybe you are poor. Maybe you have experienced being both at some point in your life. If you haven’t figured it out yet, being rich isn’t all about money. It’s about well-being, abundance, having time, success, and ABOVE ALL the right mindset.

There are definitely social issues that contribute to poverty, however, rich vs poor mindsets can also drive wealth and success.

There are many poor people with a rich mindset, financially poor due to circumstances. And there are many rich people with a poor mindset.

However, a great percentage of religious people in Africa, especially poor Nigerian Christians have a poverty mentality.

Poverty Mentality Mindset Examples

1. MISCARRIAGE: Rhesus Factor, Alcohol, drug abuse, and certain health problems can cause miscarriages but most poor Nigerians who experience miscarriages claim it is witches that are spiritually eating their babies. Some girls blame their mother’s inlaws.

My family friend is a living testimony. She had 2 miscarriages whilst she was still living in Nigeria, her pastors claim it was her mother in law that was spiritually eating her babies and thus the miscarriages.

This lady now lives in the UK and recently discovered that her miscarriages were a result of rhesus factor. When I told her about the rhesus factor while she was still living in Nigeria she didn’t believe me, she believed every lie her pastors told her. But now she lives in the UK and knows better. I think some people need to change their environment so as to reset or reformat their brains.

2. LATE MARRIAGE: I am yet to see a successful man or woman blame spiritual husbands or spiritual wives for late marriage. I know some successful women within and outside Nigeria who are above 40 and still single. Many of them don’t even want to get married but most poor 9ja women who are above 40 years old will blame spiritual husbands, enemies, or village people. They are running from church to spiritual houses casting and binding the devil lol.

Funny enough, they will never tell us about the young men they rejected because they were not rich or driving expensive cars.

They will never talk about the men they deceived and the many hearts they broke.

3. JOB LOSSES: If they lose their job they blame the landlord, witches, or village people. Africa is the only continent where people attribute their success or failure to their landlord.

When I was in the fashion/boutique business there was a guy that owned a very big boutique in Port Harcourt but the business didn’t do well. I knew the business didn’t do well because it was sited in the wrong location but my guy was blaming his landlord.

In my opinion, poverty is not just the absence of material things, but a state of mind as well.

There are many poor people with a rich mindset, financially poor due to circumstances. And there are many rich people with a poor mindset. A simple shift in your mindset can point you in the right direction to becoming as wealthy as you want to be.

Difference Between Rich and Poor Mindsets

1- Resourcefulness

A rich mindset understands that the first goal is to gain a surplus of resources. Then, to use that surplus to accelerate things. Accelerate education. Accelerate a business. Accelerate the next generation.

Poor mindset immediately sees a surplus as an opportunity for consumption and an expensive lifestyle they can’t sustain.

2- Gaining Momentum

Rich mindset seeks to spend their time, resources, and energy on work that continues to pay off long after the effort has been invested. A rich mindset is all about creating ideas and systems that continue to generate value on their own.

A poor mindset is all about the short-term returns. Hours-for-dollars. Resources invested without an immediate return are resources wasted.

3- Personal Development

A rich mindset Prioritizes personal and career development. Spend money, time, and energy on improving life and self.

A poor mindset is all about a fake lifestyle and showing off. There is no plan for tomorrow or the future.

4- Meaningful Relationships

Rich mindset Don’t blindly follow anyone. It seeks to build relationships based on trust. People with a rich mindset help others and cultivate relationships with no expectation of anything in return. Most importantly, they surround themselves with people who can impact their lives positively.

Poor mindset  Blindly follows everyone and. thinks “I scratch your back, you scratch mine”. They surround themselves with fake people that add no value to their life.

5- Luck Meets Opportunity

Rich mindset knows that the world isn’t fair, and deals with reality swiftly, and practically. It knows the world owes it nothing, that the default for life is suffering and death.

Poor mindset is consumed by the unfairness of the world, and wastes time complaining about it. It feels like the world owes it something and waits for it to be handed out. In the 2023 general election they will collect bribes, vote for criminals, and complain of joblessness, poverty, etc. Poor mindset blames his/her ancestors for every problem they face, meanwhile most of these problems are their own mistakes and wrong life choices.

6- Celebrate Others

Rich mindset Genuinely celebrates the successes of others. It is not jealous and it embraces the competition and often befriends it. You have two choices, tear down another person’s success or be inspired by the example.

Poor mindset feels jealous and bitter about the successes of others. It derives joy in hating people, gossiping and bringing people down.

Changing The Poverty Mentality

We were not born with the poverty mentality. We acquired it from our immediate environment. The way to change it is to change our environment.. Who you are is a reflection of who you hang out with.

If the people you move with have higher standards, you will be forced to raise your standards or drop out. You don’t have to fire your old friends (although sometimes it is necessary), but you make new ones who are going somewhere. You need to constantly feed your mind with new material until you start changing on the inside. You start to see things differently. It changes the way you feel about things and ultimately moves you into action. Get a mentor or support group.
